Europe's First Earth Observation Satellites

ERS 1 & 2, operated by the European Space Agency, were the first commercialy available sources of microwave radar data.  ERS-1 operated from 1991 to 2000.  ERS-2 was lanuch in 1995 and is still in operation.  Both satellites have far exceeded there expected lifespans.  These satellites carry a multi-sensor payload including a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR).ers sample
