Ice Surveillance Services
Satellite surveillance in ice-infested waters
Shipping in ice-infested waters?
Offshore activities in ice-infested waters can be hazardous and
costly. GeoAnalytic provides ice surveillance with regular
satellite image delivery for any location using an array of microwave
and optical sensors.
For information on ice conditions to be useful, it must be:
-
current
-
at optimal resolution/scale
-
in a usable format
-
easy to access
GeoAnalytic Inc. has developed an integrated ice surveillance system which provides:
-
rapid access to satellite imagery worldwide
-
optimal image acquisitions (planning and
programming of satellites) - reception of data (within hours, direct arrange with ground stations)
- automated processing systems (24/7 availability)
- interpretation and viewing software selection
on-line data management system- multiple delivery options
- support for vessel tracking and ancillary applications
During the ice season, routine monitoring of the ice conditions is a requirement which can be accomplished using economical satellite imagery. There are several satellites that GeoAnalytic Inc. has access to for ice surveillance, including Radarsat, Envisat, and MODIS.
The most flexible and reliable sensor for operational ice monitoring is Radarsat. This satellite was specifically built to monitor ice in the Canadian Arctic. Radarsat data can be collected day or night, regardless of weather, and the data can be delivered within 4 hours of being acquired. Envisat, the European radar satellite, complements the coverage provided by Radarsat, allowing greater flexibility and imaging frequency. supplementing radar imagery with polar orbiting, optical satellite imagery, particularly MODIS, can provide daily images, subject to cloud cover, anywhere in the world.
